Minimally invasive THR

Minimally Invasive total hip replacement

Minimally invasive total hip replacement or small incision total hip replacement was developed to reduce blood loss, reduce pain, enhanced recovery after surgery and restoration of the hip muscle function. The muscle, tendon, capsule and ligament functions are preserved are restored as anatomically as possible. This is proven to be a safe technique with excellent outcome and is the default technique used by some surgeons. Length of the incision varies between 3 to 6 inches depending on the size of the patient and complexity of the procedure.

Minimally invasive surgery is only one aspect of enhanced recovery pathway. The other equally important aspects are patient selection, patient education, pain management around the time of surgery, refined anaesthetic techniques and team approach involving every one involved in the patient care during pre, peri and post operative period.
