Mr Marcos Katchburian is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hand surgery and in children’s (paediatric) orthopaedics. He is a member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and an Executive Board Member of the British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery.

His hand surgery practice includes treating sports injuries hand and wrist fractures and hand conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compression problems, Dupuytren’s contracture of the hand, trigger finger and trigger thumb, wrist and finger arthritis, wrist arthroscopy and joint fusion and replacement in the hand. He works with a dedicated team of specialist hand therapists who treat hand conditions non-surgically and provide therapy after hand surgical procedures.  He has designed an early CT model for diagnosis of scaphoid fractures in order to reduce the incidence of missed fractures.

His children’s orthopaedic practice involves treating children with the whole range of paediatric orthopaedic conditions.  He has developed the Paediatric Orthopaedic Service at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells that now serves as the regional referral centre for children in Kent and East Sussex.

He obtained his basic medical qualification at the London Hospital in 1987. His general orthopaedic training took place in both in Brazil and the UK. In Brazil he completed a full residency program and subsequently returned to the UK where he spent a further 6 years on the South East Thames orthopaedic training circuit.  Following his general orthopaedic training he subspecialised in  in Hand Surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead and in Paediatric Orthopaedics at Great Ormond St Hospital and the Hospital de la Timone, Enfants in Marseille and. He maintains links with these internationally renowned centres. Mr Marcos Katchburian has been a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust since 2002.

During Mr Katchburian’s tenure at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells, the service has expanded and is now responsible for treating children with orthopaedic conditions from all over Kent and Sussex. He has set up a Ponseti clinic for treatment of clubfoot, a one stop hip clinic for assessment and treatment of early developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and multi-disciplinary clinics for cerebral palsy.

He is a heavily involved in education of future generations of surgeons. He is responsible for organising Paediatric Orthopaedic Teaching for all of the orthopaedic surgical trainees in Kent Surrey & Sussex in addition to annual examinations. Mr Katchburian is a member of the Board of the British Society For Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery and has been on their Education Committee since 2017.

He also maintains a wide practice in Hand Surgery in the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells area.
